Today, I am getting the opportunity to train with amazing coaches and players. I want to focus especially well on my backhand today. While I have a very good forehand which I can attack these higher level players with, my backhand is a huge weakness. I see now that at a higher level I can't just roll my backhand cross until I can find my forehand. I have to be able to do something with it otherwise they will attack me.
I have an obligation to my parents, my coaches, and my future self to take this information and not be upset by it, but just learn from it. I should be grateful that I get to play these players sometimes because they show me the holes in my game. In practice today, I am not going to shy away from backhands by trying to run around them or slice. I will hit my backhands with confidence because that is one of the biggest problems in my game. There is no reason not to hit backhands in practice, because they don't mean anything and I won't get as much by trying to go around it.
My coaching voice will remind me that mistakes are a necessary part of growing. I will remind myself that one day of practice doesn't matter. I am not playing Wimbledon, and this isn't some defining moment in my life. My only goal is to do what I can to improve. It doesn't matter if I miss.
