Today, I am in a tournament. In the morning I am going to practice because I got a bye first round. Then, I am going to warmup at the courts at 11:00 and play at 1:00. Similarly to last weekend, my main goal is to start the match aggressive and intense. Even though I know I might feel on edge, I will use my coaching voice to prevent me from acting on my emotions.
I have an obligation to my parents, my coaches, and my future self to recognize that I might deal with these problems and use my coaching voice to combat them. I will prevent nerves by being intense with my feet, staying aggressive even if I am making errors, and remembering that this one tournament means absolutely nothing. I am going to work on playing aggressively and staying confident and the tournament will be a success.
My coaching voice will remind me that no one event is going to make or break my career. I am just practicing to become a better player. I will use my coaching voice to remind me that I make lots of errors when my footwork isn't good. This is why sometimes I feel like I am missing everything. Finally, I will love the struggle today and I am ready to compete.
